As kids of the 90’s, we can’t forget playing The Oregon Trail game on the computer growing up. Nearly 30 years later, we set out to experience it in real life. Our first attempt nearly ended crossing South Pass in Wyoming, where we ran into blizzard conditions and black ice as 80 mph winds sent wind chills plummeting to -30°F! Struggling to traverse the Oregon Trail in a modern 4×4 really makes you appreciate the incredible hardships emigrants faced as they made the journey west in covered wagon trains. Not to be deterred however, we returned to the Oregon Trail the following summer to complete the journey and visit all those landmarks we got snowed out of.
