It’s is a storm chase like no other. A solar flare slams into Earth at speeds capable of reaching 3,000 kilometers per second. Particles from the coronal mass ejection react with our planet’s magnetic field, electrifying the upper atmosphere. The sky lights up in spectacular shades of blue, green, pink, and yellow as Mother Nature puts on her most dazzling light show: the aurora borealis, a.k.a. the Northern Lights.

Check off another bucket list adventure as we head north to put our storm chasing skills to the test in pursuit of the ultimate nature photo. From Alaska to Canada to Iceland and Scandinavia, there are no shortage of breathtaking destinations around the world to chase the Northern Lights. But capturing those truly jaw-dropping aurora shots doesn’t come easy. To be successful, you’ll need to tame the brutal Arctic cold, freak snowstorms, and the occasional polar bear encounter.

With the Northern Lights expected to reach their highest activity in over a generation as the solar cycle peaks between 2023 and 2026, where on the map below will you find us? Stay tuned to find out.
